So, here is what I have decided: I am going to be fearless in the pursuit of not only what sets MY soul on fire, but of the pursuit of what sets my students' souls ablaze.
As a young educator, I remember quite vividly the times I zoned out in class because I was "so done." I remember because it happens to me still. Yesterday, at a meeting I was having with fellow teachers on the hunt to rejuvenate the classroom, it was mentioned that we are all stuck in Pavlov's classroom. We have all been conditioned on one specific way to teach and one specific way to learn. Here's the deal, I want you to look around and point to someone who is LITERALLY the same as you. Oh? You cannot find anyone that has the same unique needs and talents as you? Yeah, well neither can I and neither can our students. This is why we need to break the mold, break the conditioning of our classrooms.
I have written multiple times about my passion for education and the sweet moments (and frustrating moments) I have had on this blog. I have ranted and raved. Cried and sang. Developed frown lines and laugh lines. Education is a roller coaster and it always keeps you on your toes! So why are we not celebrating the joy of the adrenaline rush of trying something new? Why are we not standing up to having our students sitting down all day? Why are we not coming together to break the vicious cycle that we (and our students) are all in? Well, some of us are! I am proud to say that a group of teachers (including your's truly) have come together to work through the growing pains of change and reform in education. Not only are we working through it together, we are celebrating it together! Through the victories and the trials, we have decided that failure is no longer something to be scared of, but something to embrace!
I am excited. I am pumped. I am refreshed. Education should set teachers' and students' souls on fire! I can feel it kindling. It is moments like these that I am so thankful to be working in a school that is supportive, encouraging, and just as anxious for change as I am!
So, strap in to the roller coaster and get ready for an exciting ride. I will be updating this blog with news on my classroom and keeping up with the times on my new twitter account! Check it out & follow me if you are just as passionate about change in education! (@msrittersays)
Happy Tuesday! Its time for celebratory tacos!
